Don’t Wake Love Before Its Time

Love is often referred to as an intoxicating emotion that can cause people to commit acts that they would not normally engage in but, love made them do it.

Is it the nervous feelings that you get when you’re riding high on top of a roller coaster or the peace that washes over you as your feet melt into the warm sand on the beach?

Is There a Specific Time for Love?

Don’t wake love before its time is inscribed on the pages of scripture within the book of Song of Solomon in the Bible. It is giving us a warning. A warning that some choose to ignore only to feel the sting of its consequences later.

Learning to be content while single and not rushing love or “waking love before its time” will take discipline and prayer. There are some that will get to this point in the article and stop reading however, it behooves those who are still single to soak up the lessons provided in God’s word.

Who Created Love?

God is the embodiment of love (1 John 4:7&8). God created us for love. It is written “For God so loved the world that he gave…”.

If we are to obtain a holistic interpretation of love, we must understand that love is synonymous with sacrifice. When we learn about God as in John 3:16 it teaches us that he gave.

What About Love?

For most of us when we think about love and being involved in a relationship, we tend to think about what we can get from the other person. We don’t initially think, how can I demonstrate love through the act of sacrifice?

As single moms we know that most if not all we do for our children requires an extreme level of sacrifice. We gladly do those things because we love our children and want what’s best for them. We don’t necessarily think when is my child going to repay me for all the sacrifices, I’ve provided for them?

Yes, I know the love of a parent differs from the love you may have for a boyfriend/husband. I want to dig deeper into the love that God has for us that we in turn are able to give that love to someone else.

In today’s society it is hard to find the love that is described in Ephesians 5. However, the greater quest should be in locating love within.

There are some women who are under the misconception that despite them not feeling loved when they are alone, all of a sudden when a man arrives and enters a relationship with them the love will automatically show up and resemble a teary-eyed Hallmark movie. No, that is not the case!

We must be willing to put in the work of evolving self -love to its highest form.

If we continue to place the responsibility of true love fulfillment in the hands of a man, we will forever be disappointed.

Only God can love us completely. Love can be express through the lens of a healthy relationship with another person however, it cannot be the only source of love.

If we don’t understand the origin of love, how can we expect to ever be satisfied with a substitution?
